Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck a major doubt for World Cup opener

Manchester United and England star Danny Welbeck, is almost certain to miss England’s World Cup opener against Italy due to injury. The striker is believed to have injured his thigh in training on Tuesday, with the FA set to give the fans an update on his situation at some point today.

If he does miss the opener it’ll be a major blow for both England and Welbeck, because Roy Hodgson loves to utilize the 23-year old out on the wing. Bizarrely Welbeck has an excellent goal scoring record for England, as he sits second in the list of scorers under Roy Hodgson (behind Rooney).

It looks as though Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana will get their chancs in his absence, but neither work anywhere near as hard as the aforementioned Danny Welbeck. Hopefully this won’t leave England too exposed defensively, and the Three Lions can overcome a tricky Italian side.

How big of a blow would Welbeck missing out be for England? Leave your thoughts in the comment box!
