Manchester United Football Club are now without Eric Bailly for probably the rest of January, and in all likelihood a good chunk of February as well. The Ivorian is currently representing his country in Gabon at the African Cup of Nations tournament.
His side took on Togo yesterday in their opening game which finished 0-0, the 22-year-old completed the ninety minutes and came through unscathed which is obviously a huge plus; particularly as he had only just returned from injury before the turn of the year.
After the game, the centre-back was asked how he was feeling regarding the injury, and he gave us good news.
“I’m fine,” Bailly is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.
“The injury happened, but I have recovered physically and it feels good.”
Whilst it is a shame to lose his services, it does give him the opportunity to get 100% fit which is obviously great. Alright, I would’ve preferred him to be at Manchester United right now but that’s not an option.
It’s probably a bit harsh, but I wouldn’t mind the Ivory Coast losing their next couple of games and getting knocked out from the competition early so he can return. Although they are probably firm favourites to lift the trophy, so this isn’t very likely to happen.
You have to say that Eric Bailly has been superb since making the move to the Theatre of Dreams, and it was a pleasant shock to most of us at just how good he has been. He deserves massive credit for that, and I for one cannot wait to have him back.
