The last twelve months or so have certainly been completely forgettable for young Luke Shaw. He suffered that horrible leg break against PSV just over a year ago now – and since his return he has been used rarely by Jose Mourinho. However, he will get his chance to prove his worth.
According to the usually reliable Telegraph newspaper, Jose Mourinho is ready to bring the 21-year-old in from the cold. James Ducker says that the left-back has a chance at being included in the eighteen-man squad against Stoke at the weekend, but failing that he will get some minutes against either Hull or Wigan in the EFL Cup and FA Cup respectively.
The youngster hasn’t featured for Manchester United since being hauled off at half-time against West Ham at the end of November, and that certainly started the alarm bells ringing because he wasn’t even being included in squads.
You have to remember that Shaw is still extremely young at 21, and to give up on him so early on in his career would be a mistake in my opinion. He is obviously a real talent, and that injury would’ve certainly set him back both mentally and physically.
I feel that this next six months is absolutely huge for the ex-Southampton man, but if he can show Jose Mourinho his capabilities, Shaw can force his way back into things. I believe he is still the best left-back we have in the squad, and now it’s down to him to prove that.
