Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof explains his best position on the football field

Manchester United’s defensive struggles have been well documented recently, with huge mistakes coming from both Phil Jones and Chris Smalling over the last few weeks.

One man who has remained patiently waiting in the wings is Victor Lindelof. The young Swede has found his opportunities limited, but perhaps now it’s time to test his mettle once more. Heck, he cannot do any worse than the aforementioned English duo.

Now Lindelof has been speaking to the media about where he feels most comfortable on the football field. Although he played as a full-back when he was younger, he feels his future lies at the heart of the back four.

“I can play right back, I played there when I was younger,” he told HCL Technologies, per the Manchester Evening News.

“But, the last couple of years I have played centre back and I feel most comfortable a centre-back but I can play in many positions and will play wherever the boss wants me to play but I prefer to play centre back.”

Before the turn of the year, Lindelof made a huge mental error against Huddersfield, and since then his confidence has taken a huge knock. However, we’ve seen some brilliant performances from him in the cup competitions, and now, logic suggests it’s time to give him another chance.

This is a player who came to England with an excellent reputation. He’s quick, a tough-tackler, good in the air and positionally sound. If he doesn’t get his opportunity, it tells you everything you need to know about Jose Mourinho’s confidence in the young man.
