Manchester United were better this weekend, that much is obvious. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side played with a real confidence that had been bereft since the opening day pummelling of Chelsea.
I guess it’s easier to get yourself up for a game against Liverpool as opposed to playing, say, Crystal Palace. However, watching the 20-time Premier League champions perform with a real swagger was superb.
Although the final 1-1 result wasn’t what United would have hoped for, the signs that we’re heading in the right direction were there. It’s no coincidence that when Marcus Rashford plays well, the whole team performs better. This weekend, the 21-year-old was simply stunning.
For that display, Rashford was the sole United star named in Garth Crooks’ BBC Team of the Week – and rightly so!
Rashford took his goal brilliantly and his performance, on the whole, was just far better. Perhaps scoring for England in midweek was what kickstarted his season, but either way it’s good for United that he’s back in a good place mentally.
It’s now about pressing on from here and putting in some top displays with regularity. The only knock on Rashford is inconsistency and if he can iron that out of his game then the world’s his oyster.
