Marcus Rashford reveals his preferred playing position for club and country

Two years ago, Manchester United unearthed a real starlet in the form of Marcus Rashford. The attacker burst onto the scene with two goals on debut against FC Midtjylland, then backed that up with another brace against Arsenal just a few days later.

Now, the 20-year-old Mancunian is gearing up for his first World Cup with England. After playing brilliantly all season in numerous positions, his versatility has been a real asset for Jose Mourinho’s men.

However, Rashford has been speaking to the media and revealed that he prefers playing through the middle – rather than out on the left.

“I prefer playing centre-forward.” Rashford is quoted as saying, by the Daily Mirror.

“Down the middle, definitely.

“I think that my hunger is always wanting to score goals and, definitely, down the middle you get more opportunities to do so.

I certainly think that his best performances for both club and country have come when he’s been the out-and-out striker, but it’s always going to be hard to displace Romelu Lukaku in the side. It comes as no surprise that, in England’s final World Cup warm-up game against Costa Rica, he was the best player on the field when starting up top.

He’s a far greater goal threat in that area. Let’s be honest, that’s exactly what he does best. Unfortunately for Rashford, I don’t think he’ll be starting against Tunisia later today. The injury that he suffered midweek probably ended his hopes at that, but no doubt he’ll make an impact off the bench if required.
