I never thought Mason Greenwood punctuality issues would be a serious problem for Manchester United. Alas, the 20-time Premier League champions have some serious sorting out to do…
Greenwood burst onto the scene in emphatic fashion, enjoying a stunning debut season at Old Trafford. He’d score goals galore, proving absolutely clinical when given even half an opportunity. However, there are apparently problems that United need to sort out…
The story comes from the Daily Mail, who state that the United starlet Greenwood has been spoken to about issues with punctuality and timekeeping. The article labels it as ‘general tardiness’.
Understandably, this is leaving the Reds frustrated with their top talent, and it could explain Greenwood’s absence over the last couple of games.
Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed that Greenwood was suffering from a little niggle, it feels too coincidental that the Englishman misses a couple of matches at exactly the same time as these stories surface.
It has often been highlighted that heading the ball is the one area Greenwood could improve. However, it seems as though the basic, off-field skills still need work.
Do United have another Ravel Morrison on their hands…?
Greenwood is young, though this has to be a major concern. Ravel Morrison was heralded as the next big thing in world football ten years ago. Look where a poor attitude got him…
I’d like to think that Greenwood has more common sense than that. The 19-year-old already has a season under his belt and a taste of what success at the highest level feels like. Why would he want to throw that all away over being late to training?
My other issue is that he’s not putting in the work to make it right to the very top. Natural talent will only get you so far. It’s all about the graft, with Cristiano Ronaldo the perfect example of that.
Hopefully, Greenwood takes notice of what Solskjaer has said to him, while missing a couple of games would have certainly hurt. This better be just a blip in Greenwood’s young career rather than a sign of things to come.
