Match Preview: Manchester United vs AC Milan – line-ups, team news, betting odds

Manchester United’s pre-season tour has been pretty grim thus far. Two bore draws against Club America and San Jose Earthquakes respectively have certainly dampened spirits.

However, with games coming thick and fast, there is a chance for reprieve immediately, when the Red Devils go head-to-head with an immensely gifted AC Milan side.

Jose Mourinho has been putting his players through their paces in training, which included a familiar face who visited his old teammates, now though, all attentions turn to beating the Serie A side in Santa Clara.

Team news

Diogo Dalot is still out injured. The 19-year-old is yet to feature for his new club, and we’re unlikely to see him in action before September. Obviously, that’s a blow, but things got even worse at the right-back slot with club captain Antonio Valencia limping off the field last time out against San Jose.

Nemanja Matic could make his first tour appearance in this one after linking up with his teammates following his participation in the World Cup. From here on out, expect regular first-teamers to start appearing in dribs and drabs based on how far they made it in the World Cup.

Likely line-ups

With all tour games, it’s tough to predict exactly how United will begin. We’ve given it our best shot here, but we’ll give you a low-down on who we think will play. Luke Shaw has to start, as does Matteo Darmian. Numbers are pretty thin on the ground in the full-back positions, and I’ll be surprised if these guys don’t play.

I’m not sure in what position, but Anthony Martial will likely get the nod, as will Alexis Sanchez. My heart is telling me Angel Gomes will get his first tour opportunity, and I simply cannot wait to see the young man in action.

Betting odds

The bookies reckon this one will be close. United are slight favourites at 11/8, whereas AC Milan fetch odds of 9/5. Hopefully, we’re celebrating at full-time.

I’ll go for a comfortable 2-0 United win with normal service resumed and the panicking to end. If we lose, expect some early calls for the manager’s head on social media…
