Match Preview: United vs AIK

The big news for this game is that Wayne Rooney will play no part in it, the striker has apparently picked up a ‘shoulder injury’ during the behind-closed-doors friendly at the weekend. Moyes has picked a different squad for this one, with various players being left at home. Have a look at the squad list here.

United’s opponents are likely to field a weakened side as they pursue the Allsvenskan title. They have a top of the table clash against Malmo at the weekend, who they are level on points with, so they will want to be fresh to try and overtake them into second place. They are only 2 points off the top spot and haven’t lost a game since May in the league so it’s a bit of a strange time to have a nothing game. This goes to show the pull of money and that when Manchester United comes to town it’s not an opportunity to be missed.

The United team is likely to resemble its first team from last season, rather than previous pre-season games. Moyes will want to use this last ‘competitive’ friendly before the community shield to work out his strongest team and what system they are going to play. Hopefully the youngsters who have played so well in the preseason tour (Lingard, Januzaj) won’t be affected by their non-inclusion in this game.

Moyes has chosen to give two other players a chance in this game, they come in the form of Bebe and Angelo Henriquez. Both will be looking to take their chances to impress the new boss.
