The Louis Van Gaal era unofficially starts against Bruce Arena’s LA Galaxy. LA Galaxy being the most famous team in the MLS largely due to the transfer of David Beckham in 2008. Although they haven’t shown their big club credentials as such, due to inconsistent performances in the MLS leaving them 4th in the Western Conference playing 17 games (W 7 D 6 L 4).
LA Galaxy have a huge advantage in terms of fitness, as they are midway through their season, and have seventeen league games under their belt. Manchester United have been doing double sessions of training to shake off the webs from the summer for the past couple of days.
Although you can’t judge much on pre-season performances but after last years poor showing in pre-season Louis Van Gaal will be looking to leave a good first impression with a win over the men from Los Angeles.

Robin Van Persie, Adnan Januzaj and Marouane Fellaini are still on break after the World Cup, Javier Hernandez returned this week but will most likely feature on the bench. Michael Carrick is also ruled out to up to 12 weeks after surgery on his foot. Nick Powell is expected to join up with the tour shortly, but this game will probably come too soon for him.
LA Galaxy 2-3 Manchester United
Manchester United will be looking to start this pre-season on a high and prove themselves to Louis Van Gaal but it won’t be easy against a good team at peak fitness like LA Galaxy.
