Match Preview: United vs Olympiacos

The season is a write-off now. The only meaningful game left is this Champions League tie tonight and Manchester United have to get this one right. So often our fans have been left disappointed leaving the stadium this season, and hopefully tonight will be the night where a few wrongs are righted.

The 2-0 deficit is not to be mistaken. Many fans are expecting a walkover from United here, but as you can see from the form guide below it’ll be anything but. Olympiacos will be up for the challenge, and they’ll certainly make themselves hard to beat first and foremost.

KO: 19:45 BST
Venue: Old Trafford
Date: 19th March 2014

Form Guide

Olympiacos won their last game 2-0 at home, whereas United lost their last outing 3-0 to local rivals Liverpool. The Greek side already have their domestic league won so they can focus all their attentions on this Champions League game. United on the other hand are still fighting for pride domestically.

Last Meeting

Olympiacos 2-0 United

We were outplayed a fortnight ago. We looked lethargic, flat and just plain hopeless. Olympiacos took their chances to their credit, and they played some decent football in front of their home fans.

Injury News

Chris Smalling has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, which could keep him out for as long as a month. Javier Hernandez could return tonight after injuring his knee on international duty. Jonny Evans hasn’t trained all week, so he’s likely to miss out. As is Nani who’ll probably need another weeks training under his belt.

See our predicted line-ups here.

United need to be creative. Pass, move, attack. If we do this, then we can qualify.

Score prediction: United 3-1 Olympiacos

I think we have it in us to score enough goals, however I question whether we’ll be able to keep out Olympiacos on the counter attack. They are a very good side, and for some reason everyone seems to think we should be able to walk over them. It won’t be that easy.

Go out there and do us proud, thats all we ask for!
