Match Preview: Yeovil Town vs Manchester United

Manchester United’s FA Cup campaign starts away at Yeovil Town this afternoon, and Louis van Gaal will be looking for a good cup run in the hope of securing his first major trophy as Manchester United manager. The Dutchman will certainly want to avoid another humiliation against lower league opponents.

Having said that, I expect Louis van Gaal to field a side with a blend of youth and experience. With United not playing for another seven days after today, they’ll be plenty of time for recuperation for some of the more experienced lads.

Injury News

Manchester United are still without six first-team players. Ashley Young pulled a hamstring on New Years day so he’ll miss out. The trio of Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Marouane Fellaini are still injured, with United’s next Premier League game a more realistic return date. The extent of Antonio Valencia’s pelvis problem is unknown but he is unlikely to feature today. Angel di Maria is rated as 50/50.

Last Meeting: Manchester United 8-0 Yeovil

The last time these two sides met was way back in 1949, that game was also in the FA Cup, in fact the sides haven’t met in league football.

Score Prediction: Yeovil 0-4 Manchester United

Whoever plays today, United should win this one at a canter. Hopefully a few of the younger lads can impress Louis van Gaal – namely the struggling Adnan Januzaj and the talented James Wilson.
