United won their second match of the tour by beating Kitchee FC 5-2 in the Hong Kong stadium tonight, with goals coming from five different scorers including youngsters Jesse Lingard and Adnan Januzaj. The team now head back to England for a few days, before playing AIK in Stockholm next Tuesday.
Although the pitch wasn’t in the best condition, the game started at a fast pace from both sides, as they looked to put on a good show for the fans. The first goal came after 12 minutes, when Danny Welbeck reacted first to Ashley Young’s rebounded shot and coolly placed the ball past the onrushing Kitchee keeper.
The second goal followed shortly after. This time from a Beckham-eqsue cross from Tom Cleverley – he found Chris Smalling’s head perfectly and the defender powerfully put it in. It didn’t take long before the ball was in the back of the net again, this time Wilfried Zaha the architect. He dragged his man out wide before slotting the ball nicely into the path of Fabio, he finished emphatically with the outside of his boot.
Moyes made a few changes at half-time, including bringing on Adnan Januzaj. It didn’t take long for him to get in on the act either, an inch-perfect cross from Alex Buttner was met by the Belgian’s head, and he scored his first goal in United colours.
Kitchee then went on a bit of a roll, scoring what was the goal of the match through Lam. His powerfully struck effort left Ben Amos with no chance at all, giving the Hong Kong side hope. They doubled their tally shortly after too, when Alex went on a solo run before slotting home, making their comeback all the more possible.
Jesse Lingard dealt the killer blow to any hopes of making that comeback a reality though, after a fine solo run and finish gave United their fifth goal in the 80th minute.
Man of the Match – Anderson
The Brazilian midfielder often gets criticised for being unfit, but he looked sharp in many ways today. He ran with the ball, tackled excellently and picked his man out time and time again. An all-round superb performance.
