Manchester United Football Club have been playing well of late, and that’s down to the huge squad available at Jose Mourinho’s disposal. It means he can chop and change his players to suit a certain situation, and one man who has done a good job this year is Matteo Darmian.
The Italian was brilliant at the start of his Old Trafford career, as he nailed down his spot in the team. However, his confidence looked shot after a horror show away at Arsenal – but Jose Mourinho seems to have reinstalled that belief, and he’s been doing well.
Darmian was asked about a range of subjects, and there was one question that was particularly interesting. United asked the Italian if he could change history and pick one of his countrymen to join him at United, who would he choose.
“I think in the history of Italy there are a lot of players so it’s difficult but if I have to choose one, I would probably choose Andrea Pirlo. I know him very well, I’ve played with him in the national team, so I know his qualities. He’s a very good player and I think he would have been good for United.” ManUtd.com quote Darmian as saying.
Andrea Pirlo was absolutely world class in his heydey and he just pulled the strings so effectively it was a joy to watch. I’d have loved to have seen a player of his calibre at Old Trafford – particularly alongside Paul Pogba, who seems to be struggling without the influential Italian in the middle of the park next to him.
