Manchester United’s clearout has (finally!) begun. Credit to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for realising what previous managers haven’t; this squad isn’t good enough, and it all starts with letting players go.
Several faces have departed before the European transfer deadline, with the Red Devils’ squad now looking much thinner. Although that’s not ideal, I guess we have to start somewhere…
Anyway, the last player to leave was Matteo Darmian. He has headed back to Italy – and about time, too. Parma is the team who have secured his signature for the next four seasons, and no doubt it’ll be an excellent move for all involved.
Upon leaving, Darmian took to Twitter to send a heartfelt message to the Old Trafford faithful, further showing what the consummate professional the right-back always has been.
There have been countless occasions when Darmian could have easily kicked up a fuss and demanded a move away, but credit to him for keeping his class and now that has been rewarded.
Although he wasn’t the most consistent player, you could tell he wore that shirt with pride every single time he took to the field. So he genuinely has my best wishes for the remainder of his career.
Good luck and thanks, Matteo!
