Well, I guess after his sacking a couple of weeks ago, this story was only a matter of time, right? Yes, Mauricio Pochettino has now been linked with the Manchester United job.
That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who state that the top-class 47-year-old manager wants the United job – as pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer grows.
The MEN’s source sare telling them that Pochettino remains enchanted by the prospect of managing United after being earmarked as Jose Mourinho’s potential successor last December. Ironically, the self-proclaimed Special One has since replaced Poch in the White Hart Lane dugout.
Apparently, Daniel Levy being the keen businessman that he is, apparently placed a clause in Poch’s contract which prevents him from managing a rival Premier League team this term…
Furthermore, competition in Pochettino is set to be intense, with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain all mentioned.
Personally, I’m still not sure about this one. Poch is a quality manager, make no mistake about that. However, he didn’t win a trophy with Spurs and the ending to his time there was pretty lousy. Can United really afford to take another risk?
On the flip, Pochettino’s work with young players cannot be understated. He’d give even more minutes to up-and-comers than Solskjaer would, but is that enough to get the job…?
