Manchester United Football Club have been borderline tragic in terms of buying and selling players over the last few seasons.
I don’t think it’s a surprise to see players performing better elsewhere, or even for their countries like Marcus Rashford is showing everyone right now. Then you have Memphis Depay, who has been nothing short of sublime since leaving Old Trafford.
Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, per the Daily Express, the Dutchman was only sold by Jose Mourinho to ensure more playing time for his signing, Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
I think it’s fair to say from that point, their respective careers took very different career paths. Depay has gone from strength-to-strength for club and country, while Mkhitaryan is nothing more than a bit-part player for both United and Arsenal.

Every manager gets it wrong in the transfer market. I think about Sir Alex Ferguson signing Bebe, but for Mourinho, I genuinely worry about how many signings he has got right.
I think it’s telling that all of United’s best performers this season were already at the club when he got here. David de Gea, Luke Shaw and Marouane Fellaini. Paul Pogba has struggled, as has Romelu Lukaku and Eric Bailly…
I get the feeling that the writing is on the wall for the self-proclaimed Special One, and this is just further proof of that.
