Manchester United made a big-money move to sign Nemanja Matic from Chelsea over the summer, with the 29-year-old Serbia star becoming Jose Mourinho’s third signing of the summer. This is a player that Jose Mourinho knows well from their time at Chelsea.
It has felt like an absolute age since we’ve had that top class defensive midfielder we can rely upon, and the acquisition of Matic certainly means that the more creative players in the squad, including Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera, will be allowed to do what they do best; attack.
Now Michael Carrick has given his say on the signing, and admitted that he believes Matic is a ‘terrific player’ and he’ll prove to be a great transfer for the Red Devils.
“He’s a terrific player, a great signing for us, who knows what it takes to win,” Carrick told reporters, as per website, Sports Mole.
“He had a massive part to play at Chelsea and what’s important is he knows the league, the English way, how tough it is, how the season is, so he’ll adapt quickly at United and I hope he’ll have a big part to play for years to come.”
The fact that he doesn’t really have to change his game to adapt to Mourinho’s style of play is an added bonus, and of course, he knows the Premier League well from his three-year stint at Stamford Bridge. I guess whats most important is the fact that he’s a born winner, and he’ll do whatever it takes to ensure victory for his team on any given day.
It all starts for him with a huge test against Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup, so here’s to hoping he can get off on the right foot and help his team to a trophy in his first competitive game as a Manchester United player.
