Michael Carrick out until Christmas?

According to various reports this morning, Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick could be sidelined until Christmas with an achilles problem. The 32-year old midfielder has pulled out of the England squad that take on Chile and Germany over the next week, and it is believed that Carrick had an injection yesterday in a bid to solve the inflammation.

The Manchester Evening News claim that Carrick will be out of action for at least a month, but a more likely time scale for his return will be around the six week mark. This is the worst possible news for United fans at present, as midfielder is clearly the area we are most weak in and losing our best midfielder clearly makes matters worse.

The midfielder could miss key games across three competitions, including a potentially nail-biting clash against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League – a game which could mean progression to the knockout stages or a spot in the Europa League…

He’ll also miss David Moyes’ old side Everton visiting Old Trafford, and also Tottenham Hotspur coming to the home of the champions on New Years Day.

Phil Jones played excellently in midfield alongside Carrick on Saturday, and Jones may well find himself playing in that position for the next couple of months whilst Carrick gets back to fitness.
