Manchester United fielded a somewhat ‘weakened’ team against Turkish side Fenerbahce yesterday, but still managed to stick four past Robin van Persie’s team. On the day, United were just too much too handle, and one man in particular more than proven his worth going forward.
That man is Michael Carrick, and although the veteran penned a new one-year contract over the summer, he hasn’t really had that many chances to impress. Last night was just his second start of the season, and he was absolutely sensational.
We learnt that his range of passing is something that he is the only man in the squad has the ability to do, and that has been missed dearly on occasions. He always protects the back four superbly, and gets United moving in the right direction again.
One thing is for certain, if he keeps performing like this, it’ll give Jose Mourinho a real dilemma going forward, because he’d become undroppable.
Check out this absolutely gorgeous pass that led to Manchester United’s first goal:
Despite his age, you just watch him play in absolute awe. He reads the game so well that he doesn’t need that burst of pace which he obviously doesn’t have anymore.
To have him in and around the squad is absolutely huge, and what a brilliant decision it was to get him back for another season when it looked as though he was on his way out.
