Michael Owen Will Not Be Offered A New Contract By Utd

Owen took to twitter this morning to let us know that Utd will not be offering him a new contract. After 17 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions during his three year stay, the deal hasn’t gone as well as Fergie planned, mostly due to Owen’s bad luck with injuries.

“The Manager informed me after our testimonial match on Tuesday that the club would not be offering me a new contract.” He went on “I have loved every minute of the 3 years I have spent at such a fantastic club.

“I would like to thank the players, staff and fans for their support and wish them well for the future.”

“I now plan to have a short holiday during which I will contemplate my next move.”

When you think of Michael Owen and Manchester United, one moment instantly springs to mind, that 96th minute winner in the recently voted “best Premier League match of all time”. Who can forget that important goal against Bolton too, and that hat-trick he scored against Wolfsburg, it was pure class.

The question on peoples lips now is to where the iconic number 7 shirt will go next, for me though, there is only one stand out candidate, I’d give it to Valencia based upon last seasons efforts. The only other candidate for me is Nani, but he didn’t have his best season this year, he was largely inconsistent for the most part.

Surely somebody will take on Michael, he deserves a good run in a first team at the highest level, I’d love to see a mid-table Premier League team pick him up. Anyway, thanks for the memories Michael, and all the best for the future!
