Manchester United Football Club take on Galatasaray in Sweden tomorrow, with the big Premier League kick-off just two weeks away now. Jose Mourinho and his men will certainly be raring to go, but ahead of the important games, we’ve been given a bit of bad news…
Our gaffer has confirmed that both Chris Smalling and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are currently out injured, and that’s the reason why the pair have not travelled to Gothenburg with the rest of the squad.
“Fosu-Mensah is not so much injured.” Jose Mourinho is quoted as saying.
“But he has this little thing that we want to be careful with given that he is young. He is separate from the group until he is 100 per cent back.
“Chris Smalling has had a recurrence of an old injury from the previous season. We shall see what happens, but already he is suspended for the first game against Bournemouth.”
It’s good to hear that Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s injury isn’t that serious. The young Dutchman has a huge future in football, and hopefully, he gets plenty of game time as we go into the first season under Jose Mourinho.
Smalling’s injury is a worrying one. The centre-back doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to injuries, and he is now our best defender without question. His fitness is a huge concern, and he has to nail down a spot on a regular basis, and begin to show those leadership qualities that he clearly has.
