Manchester United Football Club are sitting nicely at the top of the tree following their first three Premier League games. The Red Devils have beaten everyone that has been put in front of them so far, and Jose Mourinho has to be happy.
The self-proclaimed Special One will be looking to keep the feet of his players firmly on the ground and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. However, he has hinted that although there were three Manchester United stars nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award, there should have been a fourth; Nemanja Matic.
Our Serbian star has made a brilliant start to life at the Theatre of Dreams, and he deserves massive credit for hitting the ground running. We have to remember that the 29-year-old has barely any pre-season at all, and the fact he performed so admirably deserves heaps of credit.
‘When a team plays well it’s easier for the players to play well and perform, the team is playing well, I think it’s normal so many players, you can analyse their August month and say they were really good,’ the United manager is quoted as saying by The Metro.
‘We had three players in the nominees for Player of the Month.’
‘I know that no one won it but they put three players there and Matic was not even there, you could put four or five in the nominees because the team is playing really well.’
I genuinely cannot remember the last time we had three players up for a monthly award, heck, I cannot remember the last time we had a player not named David de Gea getting a nomination.
To me, it tells us that we’re certainly moving in the right direction and we have every reason to be happy under the leadership of Mourinho. This is a man who knows exactly what he wants from every single player from within that squad, and he will get the best out of them all.
