Manchester United’s season is over. Jose Mourinho’s men lost the FA Cup final to his former employers Chelsea, and it was a result that we simply cannot argue with.
On the day, the best team won thanks to Eden Hazard’s first-half penalty. United just looked completely toothless throughout, with Romelu Lukaku’s absence glaringly obvious for all to see.
After the match, Mourinho couldn’t help but take a dig at Chelsea, stating that the Red Devils deserved to win, before adding that his team would have been slated for playing the way they did.
“I congratulate them because they won but I don’t think they deserved to win.” Mourinho told the BBC, per the Daily Star.
“I congratulated them. I am Manchester United manager and I have to be respectful, not just because they are my previous club but because they are the opponents today but I think we deserved to win.
“I am quite curious to know what you say or what people write because if my team plays like Chelsea did I can imagine what people would say. I am quite curious.
You know that saying, people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones? Yeah, that…
United just weren’t good enough today, and this feels like classic Mourinho deflection tactic. His players never looked like dragging themselves back into the game and sometimes it’s better to just take it on the chin and move on.
Chelsea deserved to win today, and who cares about their style? They got the result and that’s all that matters.
Personally, I’m glad this season is over and I’m more than ready for the summer off. We’ve now got three months to recharge the batteries. Hopefully, we’ll come back stronger next season.
