Manchester United’s performances have been better lately, with Jose Mourinho’s men blitzing Fulham 4-1 while holding Arsenal to a 2-2 draw.
The games were far more exciting, more purposeful, more positive. Defensively, we looked much better, with both Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly garnering minutes.
However, the Ivorian found himself back on the bench last time out, and now a report from The Guardian, per The Metro, says that manager Mourinho has held talks with the 24-year-old – telling him to remain patient and his opportunity will come.
The self-proclaimed Special One told Bailly that he is ‘happy’ with the contribution coming from the centre-back, although the fact that he’s told him to remain patient lets us know that he will not be starting regularly any time soon.
To me, that’s concerning. I still stand by the fact that Bailly is our best centre-back. During his debut season, he was absolutely outstanding, putting in commanding performance after commanding performance, but last year’s injury-hit campaign has seemingly set him back a notch.
After hardly playing this term, to come into the team and play so well against Arsenal tells you everything you need to know about his character. I believe that Bailly should be thrown back into the mix as soon as possible, because he’s just too good to be left on the bench; and potentially losing him due to a lack of playing time in the process.
