Mourinho waiting on the fitness of key player ahead of Manchester derby on Thursday: report

Manchester United Football Club will have the chance to overtake Manchester City in the table this coming Thursday when the sides go head-to-head for the second and final derby of the season. Jose Mourinho will be keen to get one over on his foe Pep Guardiola, whilst getting revenge for the 2-1 loss at Old Trafford earlier in the campaign.

Ahead of that game though, our injuries really do seems be to mounting up and that’s definitely a problem. Obviously, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo are long-term casualties. Now ESPN UK says that Mourinho is sweating on the fitness of Ander Herrera ahead of the game; which would be a huge blow.

The report says that the Red Devils will be monitoring the fitness of the Basque-born midfielder, as they hope he’ll be ready to go come kick-off time at the Etihad.

Herrera did play 90 minutes against Burnley at Turf Moor, but could be seen hobbling in the dying embers of the match. As of right now, the extent of the issue is yet to be known.

Honestly, we’re desperate for him to get fit. His energy and willingness to run is something that only he can bring to our midfield, and without him we look like a completely different side.

Any derby is hard, but without Herrera, it’d be a real struggle to win the midfield battle against a very talented City team. Here is to hoping that he can play.
