Moves for Maguire & Longstaff ‘very possible’ for Man United: report

Manchester United’s transfer window has hit a bit of a lull since pre-season tour began. However, for me, the club still need a couple of key signings if they’re to compete with the best.

Midfield is still a glaring issue, particularly after losing both Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini without replacement. Names like Bruno Fernandes and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic have been mentioned constantly, although Manchester Evening News journalist, Dominic Booth, says the pair will not be signing unless Paul Pogba leaves.

However, Booth does state that moves for the Premier League duo of Harry Maguire and Sean Longstaff are still ‘very possible’ this summer, with less than two weeks until the transfer deadline slams shut…

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plan is an obvious one during this window. He’s trying to sign young, preferably British talent in order to restore United’s identity.

It goes without saying that getting a top-class centre-back would be a huge step in the right direction and Maguire would fit the bill brilliantly.

Longstaff is an odd one, though. He’s similar to Scott McTominay in terms of style and I’m not sure there’s any real reason to spend big on another young, up-and-coming box-to-box midfielder when we’re seriously struggling with chance creation in that area of the pitch…

With less than a fortnight left, Edward Woodward better act quickly…
