Manchester United Football Club is jam-packed with success stories under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Credit where it’s due, the Baby Faced Assassin has turned the Red Devils’ future around. Nemanja Matic is a prime example.
It wasn’t too long ago that the Serb’s time in Manchester looked done and dusted. Simply put, I thought he was finished as a high-level footballer. However, the 31-year-old has turned his future around over the last few months.
Matic has Scott McTominay to thank for that, whose injury allowed the ex-Chelsea man a regular run in the side. He took that chance superbly.
After United triggered his one-year contract extension just last week – and it seems as though things are about to get even better for Matic.
According to The Sun, the veteran is in talks with the Reds over a new two-year deal following his, and I quote, ‘stunning return to form’.
The 31-year-old was ‘expected to leave this summer’ which shows what a remarkable U-turn the midfielder has made and seriously, all credit to him for that.
Discussions between United and Matic’s agents are already well underway, with the Serb also set to get a nice pay rise, taking his earnings to £140,000-a-week.
It’ll be brilliant to have his veteran presence in and around the dressing room for another couple of years. It’s rare that United are willing to offer more than a one-term deal to a player over 30, which further shows how brilliant Matic has been over the last few months.
