Manchester United Football Club have had plenty of legends and heroes down the years, and one of the best centre-backs we’ve ever seen is the Serbian Warrior, Nemanja Vidic. Now 34, he won it all at this prestigious club, and he’ll always have a place for us in his heart.
In an interview, Vidic was asked about all things United, and he revealed who he thought his toughest Premier League opponent was. His answer may shock a few, as it isn’t Liverpool’s Fernando Torres. Instead, Drogba, Suarez and finally Aguero get mentions.
“People say: ‘You had a difficult game against Torres’, but it was just the one game.” Vidic is quoted as saying.
“I went to head the ball but changed my mind and tried to pass to Edwin [van der Sar]. I misjudged the distance and Torres scored.”
“Drogba was tougher. Torres always created a chance to score, but Drogba was on you for the full game. Drogba was physically the hardest; [Luis] Suarez and [Sergio] Aguero were the best.”
You’d have to agree with Vida on all of these. Drogba was an absolute tank back in the day, and Sergio Aguero is one of the best strikers the English game has ever seen, although it pains me to say it.
It’s always nice to hear from club icons like Nemanja, and although he left the club in acrimonious circumstances under Moyes a few years ago. He’ll be fondly remembered.
