Since the Aaron Wan-Bissaka deal went through, all has gone quiet in regards to potential incoming at Manchester United.

Well, we could finally have some movement on that front. The story comes The Guardian, who, when writing about Steve Bruce potentially taking over at Newcastle United, have provided a little (yet important) snippet on Sean Longstaff’s future.

They state that Newcastle are ‘on the verge’ of losing the 21-year-old to United – presumably during this transfer window.

Longstaff put in some classy performances in his breakthrough season before suffering knee ligament damage back in March – the highlight being a brilliant display against Manchester City back in December.

Aged just 21, this young man is only going to get better, although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must have some reservations after the pretty serious injury Longstaff suffered.

In terms of comparison, I liken Longstaff to Michael Carrick, although the former is more mobile than the United legend. Obviously, if he goes on to have half the career as his fellow Geordie, then it will be considered a huge success.

With no manager still in place at Newcastle, now would be the time for the 20-time Premier League champions to make their move as Mike Ashley is solely in charge at this point.

It’s easy to be underwhelmed by this signing at first glance, but when you consider the club are yet to replace both Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera, you can see the logic behind it.
