Newcastle defender sticks knife in following Manchester United 1-0 loss on Sunday

Manchester United’s Premier League campaign was likely already over, but the Red Devils turned in an embarrassing performance against Newcastle on Sunday.

Not one player put in a display to be proud of, and from 1-11, every single man was beaten. Jose Mourinho must have been extremely frustrated with the outing, but he has to take some blame too, following his stubbornness in refusing to try a different tactic.

Anyway, following Newcastle’s deserved victory, their star defender, Jamaal Lascelles, has stuck the knife in by claiming that several Red Devils players just didn’t turn up.

“They have got some great players but I don’t think [Manchester] United turned up,” Lascelles is quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

“We have played against Arsenal and Man City and you can really see the quality and one mistake or a lack of concentration and a goal will go in.

It’s just sad. United is a club built on passion, desire and a hunger to fight for the badge. There has been far too many occasions lately in which the players have admitted defeat. They didn’t look interested in pulling out a result against Newcastle on Sunday, despite having several world-class players on the field.

A few weeks ago I felt confident about our chances in the Champions League. Perhaps we could make a semi-final in typical Mourinho fashion, keeping it tight at the back and score a couple of goals through our brilliant attack. Right now, though, I look towards the FA Cup as our only shot at securing a trophy. With that said, Huddersfield away on Saturday night will not be an easy game.
