Odion Ighalo could have played last Man United game as talks with Shanghai reach impasse: report

Manchester United Football Club pulled off an absolute blinder back in January, acquiring Odion Ighalo on a short-term loan deal.

The boyhood Reds fan would hit the ground running and put in some sublime displays before play was halted due to COVID-19.

Well, according to the Evening Standard, the 30-year-old could have played his last United game, as talks between the Reds and Shanghai Shenhua, his parent club, have reached an impasse…

Understandably, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to keep Ighalo beyond his May 31st contract expiry, though Shanghai want Ighalo back in China for the start of their domestic season.

The CSL outfit want a £20million permanent fee to let Ighalo leave, while United have a preference towards a short-term deal – presumably one which would allow him to see out the season before making a longer-term decision.

It’d be a real shame if United, and their fans, don’t get to give Ighalo a proper send-off. He deserves at least one final Old Trafford roar before heading back, but right now, it does seem as though the writing is on the wall.

For United, they’re having to look elsewhere. The Evening Standard adds that Solskjaer still wants to add a striker with Timo Werner and Moussa Dembele ‘at the forefront’ of the Baby Faced Assassin’s thinking…
