Manchester United Football Club have confirmed that Daley Blind has left Old Trafford, and re-joined Ajax after a four-year stay with the Red Devils.
The club announced the news this afternoon, and you always felt that the writing was on the wall for the versatile Dutchman; after only making a handful of Premier League starts during the 2017/18 campaign.
He’s a fantastic player in his own right, and no doubt he’ll go on to enjoy huge success back in the Netherlands. At this point in time, you felt a move away from the Theatre of Dreams was in the best interests for everyone. United likely will have gotten a decent transfer fee, Blind will go back to playing week-in-week-out and Ajax are getting a brilliant player.
Sometimes, manager/player combinations just don’t work out. Under Louis van Gaal, Blind was excellent at centre-half. However, we all know that Jose Mourinho employs a completely different tactic. He needs physically dominant footballers, Blind just isn’t that.
Honestly, I’m surprised that he lasted a full two seasons under the self-proclaimed Special One, but that shows you just how highly thought of he is.
Thanks for the memories, Daley. Here’s my personal favourite:
