Manchester United have confirmed that Luke Shaw has signed a new contract at the club.
The Red Devils have tied the 23-year-old to a five-year deal which runs until 2023. The Old Trafford side also have the option to extend that for a further year if they so choose.
Shaw has probably been the Red Devils’ best player to start the 2018/19 campaign, with his performance levels remaining consistently excellent from the very first game at home to Leicester City.
To have the left-back under contract until he is 28 (or 29 if the year option is taken up) is superb. We’re going to have him for his best years, and the great thing is that he’s only going to improve from now onwards.
It’s just superb that it seems as though his injury problems are now firmly behind him. Shaw has had his struggles, particularly under Mourinho, who publicly criticised him at times. It just goes to show that the tough love approach can work, although that’s a testament to Shaw himself – who has never once given up. Instead, the ex-Southampton man has just kept fighting, working hard, and showing what he can do. Now, it’s finally paying off.
