Manchester United have decided to recall the 21-year-old Devonte Redmond from his current loan spell at Scunthorpe, according to the official website.
The midfielders loan agreement was due to end on January 6th, but due to the fact that the League One side aren’t playing this weekend, the Red Devils have brought him back two days early.
While playing for Scunthorpe, Redmond played seven times, and now his aim will be to play for Ricky Sbragia’s youth side back at the AON Training Complex.
Redmond is a talented lad, there is no doubt about that, but I’d be surprised if he went all the way and made a name for himself at Manchester United. He’s a good footballer in his own right, but perhaps I can see him playing at Championship level all going well.
It would have been an excellent experience for him playing regular, competitive football though, and it gives him a good idea as to what it’ll be like if Redmond does move away from Manchester United on a permanent contract.
Personally, you can tell whether or not a loan move is going to work within the first few weeks, just look at how well both Andreas Pereira and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are playing right now; both of whom could be worthy of an early call-back this month.
