Manchester United decided to take an extremely youthful squad to Kazakhstan for the game against FC Astana – which certainly makes sense given the conditions coupled with the fact that the Red Devils have already sealed their place in the knockout rounds.
Today, in his pre-match press conference, the Baby Faced Assassin has gone one better. ManUtd.com state that Solskjaer has confirmed three talented starlets will make their debuts vs Astana tomorrow night, and what a moment it’ll be for all of them.
Firstly, it’s also worth noting that 36-year-old Lee Grant will make his full United debut too. He’ll play in between the sticks.
Now onto the youngsters. First up, we have Di’Shon Bernard, who’ll presumably start at the heart of the defence, most likely alongside Axel Tuanzebe.
Next we have Ethan Laird. He’s a top-quality full-back whom I think has potential to go right to the top of this game and challenge Aaron Wan-Bissaka for that starting berth.
Last but not least, comes Dylan Levitt. The classy midfielder is already being recognised by Wales boss Ryan Giggs at international level, now, he’ll get his chance to impress Solskjaer.
I think we’ll also see Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw make their returns from injury, while keep an eye out for more debuts being made from off the substitutes bench.
Games and moments like this make you proud to be a United fan. This is what this club has always been about and serious credit has to go to Solskjaer for taking a squad with an average age of just over 20, with the possibility of double-figure debuts being handed out.
