In summer, 2016, Manchester United managed to prise Paul Pogba from Juventus FC’s grasp, in a deal that was a world record fee at the time. The 24-year-old has gone from strength-to-strength since then, and he’s easily been our best player this term.
Now, the French star has been speaking out about his move came about, including discussing the fact that he turned down Real Madrid in order to make a sensational return to the Theatre of Dreams.
The reasoning behind that? Because he felt it in his heart that he had to come back. Although he’d already have a La Liga title under his belt if he moved to Spain, he is adamant that he didn’t regret his decision.
“To be honest, Real Madrid came to me and I was thinking to go there, and I was thinking to go to Manchester United too,” he told Beyond the Pitch, per Sky Sports News.
“But I always felt it in my heart. My heart told me to come back here [Manchester], I don’t know why, I didn’t know what was going to happen.”
“But I did it and I don’t regret.”
We’re genuinely lucky to have Pogba back in Red Devils colours. He’s an outstanding individual with an excellent footballing brain – making him comfortably one of the best midfielders on the planet.
How long will he stay for? Who knows, but we must enjoy him while we can. The sad truth is that eventually, he’ll become too good for us and want to move on – unless we can improve our stature in the footballing world, and overtake the likes of Madrid and FC Barcelona.
