Manchester United overcame a resilient Norwich City side 1-0 this afternoon, thanks to an cooly taken goal from Juan Mata. Before the game, Anthony Martial pulled up in the warm-up and was ruled out of the match, and that left Paul Scholes unhappy with Van Gaal.
The Dutchman chose to rest Marcus Rashford and Daley Blind completely, with the pair not even included in the match day squad. That meant Wayne Rooney had to go up front as he was the only recognisable striker in the squad.
“I can’t understand at this stage of the season why LvG has decided to rest players.” Paul Scholes said on BT Sport.
You can understand Scholes’ frustrations too. Wayne Rooney hasn’t scored a goal in months, and clearly he has more of a future in midfield rather than a striker. Leaving Rashford out of the squad completely was just a bizarre decision, and on another day United would not have scored and our top four race would be over already.
