The Red Devils and youth have always walked hand-in-hand. Credit where it’s due, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done his utmost to continue that mantra. When Angel Gomes leaves Man United on his own accord, though, you’re left scratching your head.
Our teenage prodigy’s exit from Old Trafford has since been confirmed, with Gomes now looking for a new home to hone his talents.
Upon his exit, though, it was nice to see a classy message from Gomes’ former teammate somewhere down the line, Manchester City’s Phil Foden…
The Stockport-born attacker took to Twitter to share a great video of the pair in training together, and although it’s a pretty blurry video, it must be about ten years old!
At the end of the day, we’re all humans and these two young men obviously had a friendship before their club careers went in different directions. It’s nice to see that they’re still pretty close, despite the fact that Gomes is leaving Manchester in pretty disappointing circumstances.
I always thought that this young man would be the next big thing to come out of the Theatre of Dreams. Instead, his Old Trafford career has somewhat fizzled out.
After an electric pre-season tour, Gomes largely disappointed during his limited first-team chances, which leads me to believe that perhaps something has gone on behind the scenes.
Let’s face it, we have a manager in Solskjaer who hasn’t shied away from giving youth a chance. For whatever reason, Gomes has often been left out in the cold. Maybe the 5’7 attacker told the club he was off this summer, hence why we haven’t seen him play for the first-team since January.
Once a Red, always a Red and all that, though. I do wish Gomes the best of luck in his future endeavours, though I’m still not quite sure where he’ll end up.
