Manchester United are sweating on the fitness of the makeshift central midfielder Phil Jones after the England international suffered a groin injury whilst playing for his country on Friday night. The problem is expected to keep Jones on the sidelines for the next two games, but he should be fit to take on Tottenham at White Hart lane on December 1st.
The natural centre-back has become a key part of Moyes’ starting XI in recent weeks, and his absence for the games against Cardiff and Leverkusen certainly pose problems. Especially the latter as Marouane Fellaini is banned for that game, leaving just Cleverley and Anderson as our natural central midfielders available for a must win game.
Ryan Giggs is another option for a central role, and he’ll probably end up playing one of the games as he hasn’t featured due to the international break and will be raring to go. There’s no doubt that our midfield’s weakness is there for all to see, and that certainly must be an area that David Moyes will be looking to strengthen come January.
