Phil Jones: This Manchester United 31-year-old is a ‘machine’

Manchester United Football Club have looked pretty solid defensively as of late, and that’s down to one man in particular; Jose Mourinho. The coach who replaced Louis van Gaal has always been known as a defensive-minded one, and right now that’s paying dividends.

Over the last ten games, the Red Devils have only conceded four goals which is a mightily impressive record, considering how competitive the Premier League can be. The manager has put a lot of faith in Phil Jones recently, despite him missing the first couple of months of the campaign due to being on the treatment table.

In an interview with Inside United, Phil Jones was asked to describe the rest of the Manchester United defence. When it came to Antonio Valencia, he had glowing words for the man from Ecuador.

“There’s just one word for Antonio – machine! The guy is a machine.” Jones responded.

Antonio Valencia has been an absolute monster recently, and in my opinion, he’s playing the best football of his life. The 31-year-old has completely transformed his game over the last couple of seasons, and right now he’s up there with the best right-backs in the country.

The in-form Englishman has been at the heart of Manchester United’s defence for the last few months since his return from injury. He also had high praise for  Marcos Rojo, who has been his partner during that time.

“Feisty! Again, aggressive and a good passer with his left foot.”

This is just high praise indeed, and I bet as a teammate it’s always great to hear that your defensive partner has your back. You look at Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones on the field, and they do compliment each other perfectly.
