Phil Neville: This is why Man United will beat City to the Premier League title

Manchester United’s preparations for the new Premier League season are complete. The Red Devils won six of their seven pre-season games, and in the process, they looked rather convincing. Jose Mourinho is building a squad that suits his style of play, slowly but surely.

The Old Trafford club finished sixth in the Premier League last year, but managed to secure Champions League football due to winning the Europa League.

This year though, their main focus has to be making a real charge at winning the English top-flight. Since Sir Alex Ferguson decided to retire, United haven’t really come close once, and that must be disappointing for the fans.

However, former player Phil Neville has had his say on the situation, and he is tipping United to go all the way and beat out competition from Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal to secure their 21st title this season.

Neville reckons that Mourinho’s experience, Premier League know-how and wizardry in the transfer market will bring them a title.

“The top four in order? Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.” Phil Neville told the Premier League’s official website.

“The two Manchester clubs will fight it out for the league, but Jose Mourinho’s track record of winning titles in his second season and the buys they’ve made this summer mean I am going for United.”

You find it hard to disagree with the points that Neville is making. Mourinho has made some excellent transfers. Although it isn’t a signing that excites, the arrival of Nemanja Matic is such an underrated piece of business, and we’ll no doubt reap the rewards over the next twelve months.

The Premier League is such an unpredictable tournament though, and literally, any one of about six sides could win the league if they get a bit of luck and go on a decent run. I just hope that the experience of Mourinho pulls through and we’ll be celebrating next May.
