Well, it wasn’t easy but Manchester United Football Club did ensure progression to the final of the newly-renamed EFL Cup. Jose Mourinho’s men will make the trip to the national stadium at the end of February – their fourth Wembley appearance in about nine months.
On the night against Hull City, Jose’s team struggled massively, and in my opinion, that was a mixture of complacency setting in, coupled with some extremely poor refereeing.
That didn’t stop the self-proclaimed Special One from cracking a smile on what looks like the team bus on the way home, though. It was his 54th Birthday on the day of the Hull City game, and after the fixture, the gaffer was treated to a Manchester United-themed birthday cake.
The photo appeared on social media just hours after the 3-2 aggregate victory, and although he looked rather angry during his post-match interview, this photo certainly tells a different story.
Have a look at the photo of the boss here:
That's the first birthday cake I've ever seen with a picture of Jose Mourinho appealing to a referee on it. pic.twitter.com/y9okzEz5hP

United’s cup run has been pretty strong from the get-go. We’ve beaten out some tough opposition in the form of both Manchester City and West Ham, and obviously, the two-legged tie against Hull City was fairly comfortable and we were always in control.
Southampton awaits in the final, in a fixture that’ll provide a different test due to their very well executed counter-attacking style. However, it’d be absolutely superb to get a trophy under our belt nice and early on.
