Picture: Ashley Young all-smiles with Solskjaer after penning new contract

Manchester United have certainly been on a huge contract-giving spree lately, with Anthony Martial and Phil Jones committing in recent weeks.

Now, the club have confirmed that Ashley Young has signed a new one-year extension, meaning he’ll remain a Red Devil until the summer of 2020.

The 33-year-old, who was signed from Aston Villa, has turned into an extremely important asset at Old Trafford. Young’s versatility, tenacity and overall work ethic is something to be proud of, and we’re lucky to have him.

It certainly makes sense giving him another year here despite the fact that he’s now 33. Currently, we don’t have a better right-back in the squad which tells you just how well he has been playing out there.

Sure, I think it’s worth noting that as he gets older, United should be looking at working on a long-term fix for Young, but in the meantime he’s doing an excellent job. As a rotational option, he’s definitely worth his weight in gold.

Solskjaer is not only having a massive impact on the pitch, but off it too. He’s convincing United’s players to stick around and recent results definitely back that up. Next, David de Gea? Pretty please!
