This Manchester United team just keeps rolling on. Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils are playing some brilliant football right now, and they more than deserve to be sitting at the top of the Premier League table – alongside fierce rivals Manchester City.
In the last set of fixtures, United travelled down South in a potentially tricky fixture against Southampton. The game proved to be a struggle, but Mourinho’s men managed to come away with a slender 1-0 victory.
For his performance in that match, Phil Jones has been named in Garth Crooks’ Team of the Week for the BBC, and he more than deserves all the credit that is coming his way right now.

The centre-back was absolutely sensational and he didn’t give the Southampton front line a sniff of an opportunity. He won plenty of aerial duels, went hard in the tackle and he was a real leader of that defence from the first minute right until the last.
Jones has made a wonderful start to the 2016/17 season, and he’s forming an excellent partnership alongside Eric Bailly. It’s become a duo that Mourinho can depend on when the going get’s tough, and the pair are rightly taking the plaudits right now.
