Picture: Brilliant Romelu Lukaku passion after Belgium’s late winner against Japan

Last summer, eyebrows were raised when Manchester United broke the bank to sign Romelu Lukaku.

After a season of goals, hard-work, great celebrations and dodgy chants, it’s fair to say to say that the Old Trafford faithful found themselves a new hero.

The Red Devils fans love themselves a man who understands the history and traditions of the club, while demonstrating a willingness to play for the badge.

Not only does Lukaku do that for club, the all-time Belgium top-scorer is doing it on the international stage. The other Red Devils found themselves in a 2-0 hole midway through the second half, but after some excellent play (and a goal from Marouane Fellaini), the comeback was complete late.

Lukaku showed an excellent sense of awareness by dummying the ball, dragging two defenders with him, which allowed Nacer Chadli to coolly slot home and send his side through.

In the aftermath, this gem of a photo was unearthed:

You just have to love it. What was even better, following the game, Lukaku was at the heart of a team huddle, presumably offering words of encouragement and wisdom. This type of leadership will serve him well throughout his career, and honestly, I’d make him United’s next captain in a heartbeat.
