PICTURE: Danny Welbeck vs Raheem Sterling

Earlier today we learnt that Danny Welbeck could miss England’s opener against Italy through injury, and it is widely expected that Raheem Sterling will take his place in the starting XI. Sky Sports have done a stat comparison of the pair, take a look below.

As you can see, Sterling has featured in more games and played more minutes, but the pair have scored the same amount of goals. Sterling is predominantly a winger, and although Danny Welbeck is a forward he has been deployed out wide for the majority of his games this season.

As you’d expect, Sterling has attempted far more dribbles, but rather surprisingly more tackles too.

Who’s the better player in your opinion? Leave your thoughts in the comment box below.

  1. I would say Sterling, he attacks defenders head on. It is good to see, as far as England is concerned I hope he doe’s good.PB

  2. To be honest the lad Sterling has lots more natural ability and has the potential to be a great player, would find it hard to say the same of Wellbeck,he’s average at best! I think it is silly to compare players that play in different positions;Wellbeck is a striker so if we are to compare him with anyone it should be Sturridge? Not a hard decision then?!

  3. Sterling is light years better than Weldived, hopefully for England’s sake none of the Man Ure dross will be anywhere near the starting eleven in Brazil.
