For five years Manchester United were lucky enough to call Javier Hernandez one of our own.

The Little Pea scored some incredible goals while playing for this club, but eventually, he had to move on and what a sad day it was. His relationship with the fans was amongst the best connections a club and player have had this decade. That will never change.

Yesterday, Hernandez returned to Old Trafford as a Hammer. Thankfully (for us anyway) the striker had a quiet evening. As he was substituted off, though, Chicharito earned himself a standing ovation from each and every corner of the Theatre of Dreams.

After the game, Hernandez posted a photo via his Instagram as he shared a smile with his old pal David de Gea, before posting a heartfelt message to the United fans.

This is why he’ll always be fondly remembered. Not only was Hernandez an excellent player but he was an equally brilliant person who understood what it meant to play for United.

It’s also what makes this club so special. Hernandez could return to Old Trafford countless times from now until the point in which he decides to hang up his boots and you can bet your bottom dollar that even if he scored a last-minute winner against us he’d still get exactly the same reaction.

All the best going forward, Chicha!
