So here at Old Trafford Faithful, our main goal is covering transfer stories. We also love predicted line-ups and covering best XIs.
Today’s version is a little different. It comes from UEFA, and we’ve done some digging but can’t find their direct link, so this article via Sport Bible will have to do. The European governing body picked their ‘all-time best XI’. This team is going to be stacked with Manchester United players, right?
Just two ex-United stars feature in the line-up, and the most disappointing part is that it’s not even who you’d expect…
Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo definitely deserves his place in the side. Obviously, he’s arguably the greatest player to have ever graced the game. I do question Gerard Pique’s inclusion, though. You’re telling me he’s a better centre-back than both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic? Not having it.
For me, the most notable exclusions are the likes of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, who are amongst the leading appearance-makers in the competition, while lifting the great trophy twice.
Steven Gerrard including? Just no. Thierry Henry’s spot in the side is even more laughable.
Again, it just highlights the Spanish bias towards the Champions League and honestly, it’s just as annoying as ever that football at the highest level is still so political.
