Picture: Luke Shaw all-smiles alongside Jose Mourinho after penning new contract

Manchester United have tied Luke Shaw down to a new contract.  The Red Devils confirmed that the left-back has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal, with the option to extend for a further year if the club chooses.

To have a player of Shaw’s calibre at the club for the best years of his career is huge. He has been arguably our best outfield performer in the 2018/19 campaign, and his intentions have been clear since day one. He scored against Leicester City, his first career goal at professional level. Since then, he hasn’t looked back.

Shortly after confirming that the deal had been done, United took to Twitter to post a photo of Shaw alongside his manager, Jose Mourinho…

Mourinho is a key figure in this deal going through. The self-proclaimed Special One used the tough-love approach on Shaw, heck, he even criticised the left-back publicly at times. However, that seemingly has worked. We’re now seeing the best football in Shaw’s young career. Our manager deserves credit for that.

As for Shaw, he just has to keep doing what he has been doing. He has been sensational, he’s gotten his big pay-day, now he can focus solely on playing for Manchester United for the next half-decade.
